FAQ

IT IS MY FIRST TIME WAXING, WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE?"At KOKKINI we understand that waxing, especially the Brazilian, can be very intimidating. It is our goal to make waxing as comfortable as possible and we will walk you through the entire process as we go. Each individual body is different so we adjust our technique as needed. It is important to be hydrated before you appointment. The skin is like a sponge, the more hydrated you are, the easier the hair comes out – so less discomfort for you. Note: It takes at minimum 24 hours for the cells to rehydrate if you’re not already an avid water drinker. Try to refrain from too much caffeine or alcohol, as these may dehydrate the skin and cause unnecessary discomfort during wax. It is also recommended you do not tan 24-48 hours before waxing due to an increase in skin sensitivity.

MEDICATIONS?Please communicate with us any medications you are taking. Some medications (topical or oral) like certain Antibiotics, Accutane, Retin-A, Tretinoin etc, can cause extreme photo-sensivity. This will thin/weaken the skin and make you much more susceptible to the skin lifting/peeling/tearing.
-
DOES WAXING HURT?Every single person is different. The majority of people are pleasantly surprised that waxing is not nearly as bad as expected. Using the right techniques is key to the most comfortable experience for you. Waxing regularly (3-6 weeks) will significantly minimize any discomfort with waxing.
-
HOW LONG DOES THE HAIR NEED TO BE?It is recommended that the length of the hair be 1/4 to 1/2 inch at minimum. To get this length it usually takes about 2-3 weeks from the time you last shaved. The hair grows in 3 different cycles so it is not promised that all the hair will be on the same cycle, which means some different lengths will be apparent. We don’t want the hair too short or too long as this may cause some added discomfort.
-
DO I NEED TO TRIM?We prefer to do the trimming at KOKKINI. It is possible that you may trim the hair too short and/or patchy.
-
WHAT KIND OF WAX DO YOU USE?At KOKKINI we use strictly hard wax on the more sensitive areas like the Brazilian, face, and underarms. For large body parts like Arms, and legs we use a mixture of soft and hard wax. These areas depend solely on hair type and skin sensitivity.
-
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HARD AND SOFT WAX?Hard wax is the most gentle way to remove the hair. An oil is applied before the wax which creates a barrier between the skin so eliminates that extra sting you can get from strip wax attaching to the skin. After the wax is applied to the skin it dries within seconds then we are able to pull the wax off. You can also go over the skin more than once with hard wax without causing too much sensitivity. Strip wax is meant more for fine hair. It is applied to the skin then removed with a cloth strip. I only prefer to use this wax on areas like the legs, arms, chest and back. Often times we will use both hard and strip wax on these areas. Although very effective on the areas mentioned, soft wax can tend to be much more aggressive on the skin which is why we don’t use it on the face, underarms, and entire bikini area
-
WILL WAXING MAKE MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER?No, waxing is meant to thin hair. Once the hair and root are pulled from the follicle the root grows back slower and smaller, which makes the hair grow back much finer. After your first Brazilian wax, depending on the person, the hair will grow back almost 50% thinner and finer. If you wait longer than 6 weeks your hair will grow back to its normal potential.
-
HOW OFTEN IS IT RECOMMEND TO WAX?Every person is different, but for less discomfort and easier maintenance we usually recommend every 3-4 weeks to keep the hair thin and fine.

IS IT OK TO WAX IF IM PREGNANT?Yes. You may continue your normal waxing regimen up until your due date. Due to an influx of hormones waxing can be a little more uncomfortable than normal in the first trimester, but this usually passes within the 2nd trimester. As your body changes with pregnancy your esthetician will make changes in her technique to make waxing more comfortable for you. If laying on your back becomes too difficult over time, we offer small bolsters for you to comfortably tilt to your side during the waxing process.
